My love story with cancer is still being written. Just like me, a work in progress.

Some moments don’t feel life-changing when they first happen. They arrive quietly - like an unexpected puppy named Koda. After loss and hesitation, one early morning meeting turned into a bond built on trust, snuggles, and unconditional love. Koda taught me presence, joy, and healing in ways I didn’t know I needed, reminding me that sometimes the love we least expect becomes the love that changes us most.

Some moments shape us quietly, long before we know they matter. Brenda was one of mine. What began as fear in a school hallway turned into an unlikely connection that spanned decades—through pain, healing, letters, and loss. This is a story about choosing love over fear, about soft strength, and how one small act of compassion can change the shape of a life forever.

One of the most meaningful traditions my boys and I have shared is our Christmas countdown chain. What began as simple paper loops filled with concerts, visits, and small moments has grown and changed with each season of life. As our family expanded across miles and generations, the chain became a thread of connection - reminding us that the smallest traditions often carry the deepest love.
